Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband is now available for pre pay customers with a compatible device, at $75 for unlimited data. This may be reduced to $60 a month if you’re prepared to stick with the carrier for nine months and use autopay.
Verizon is offering three discounts. The first is a saving of $5 a month for customers using autopay. There’s another $5 a month saving for customers who have stayed with Verizon for three months, which is doubled to $10 a month saving if you’ve been with the carrier for nine months.
For the money, customers with a suitable device stand to benefit from Verizon’s high speed 5G Ultra Wideband network, which according to the carrier offers data speeds of up to 25 times faster than LTE. The plan includes unlimited minutes, text messages, and data, including Verizon’s LTE and lower-band 5G network, with up to 10GB of maximum speed hotspot data – perfect for connecting your tablet or laptop. After the initial 10GB, Verizon’s network will drop to 600Kbps transfer speeds, likely to impact video streaming services. Unlimited voice minutes, text messages, and data is also available in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, but this is probably not something many customers will be able to benefit from with the current travel restrictions. Customers should note that if you use more than 0.5GB a day in these international destinations, the data network drops to 2G speed.
Would-be customers should also note that this is very much a “no frills” plan – Verizon’s perks are excluded from the deal, which means customers won’t benefit from Discovery Plus, Apple Music, or Disney Plus, which come with post pay plans. Still, if you live or work within Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband coverage, this plan could be just the thing – but if you do not, you may want to check out Verizon’s other pre pay plans.
